In 2003, a hill walking group called Mullaghareirk Ramblers was established. We are affiliated with Mountaineering Ireland.

The group meets approximately every 3 weeks to climb mountains in the Munster region. The trails in Broadford and Ashford are of great benefit as they help to maintain our fitness.  Each year we climb The Old Killarney to Kenmare road, Sheep’s Head, Mount Eagle, Mangerton, the Burren, the Galtees, Purple Mountain, Hungry Hill, Brandon and Corrauntuohill to name but a few.

Every September we arrange a weekend away and have climbed in the Mournes, the Wicklow mountains, the Maamturks, and this year we climbed Ben Gorm. The weekend often includes some island hopping, a cycle, good food and lots of good craic!

In 2019 some members travelled to Peru for a memorable visit to Machu Picchu having climbed the Salkantay Trail. The visit ended with a relaxing stay on the islands of Lake Titticacca.

We are always looking for new members so if you are interested in joining us click on Membership for details.

Membership is open all year round and if you are interested in joining please email us at walkbroadfordashford@hotmail.com. The annual fee for membership is €50 which includes the cost of insurance which we get through  Mountaineering Ireland. More information on the insurance can be obtained at Mountaineering Ireland
